Location
This photo was taken in my studio with a black velvet backdrop. I was experimenting with macro flower shots.Time
I shot this mid morning when the sun is not too strong in the window area, a bit diffused so I could get softer shadows.Lighting
The flower was lit with natural side window light and a reflector to bounce light back onto the flower. Window light always looks more natural than my studio lights.Equipment
The image was shot with a Canon 20D and Canon 100mm Macro lens, I used a tripod, cable release and manual focus. Shot at F8, 100mm and exp time 0,3.Inspiration
Macro photos of flowers show a whole new world to the viewer and fascinate me! They are also great for Black and White Fine Art images.Editing
I always take my photos in raw so I can control the post-processing. The photo was processed using Lightroom with minimal adjustments! In my camera bag
I have a Canon 5D mark III body, with the following lenses: 24-70mm, 100mm macro, 70-200mm f2.8, and the 85mm fixed f1.8 lens. My tripod is the Nest Tripod. The 85mm fixed lens is really sharp and makes you move around and take photos from different view points as you have to use your feet to zoom in or out!Feedback
My advice to other photographers is to take your time and look with your eyes for awhile before you take hundreds of images, once I slowed down and thought before I hit the shutter button my images improved. I have a lot fewer photos after a photo session but there are not so many images that have to be deleted! Pretend you only have a 36 exposure roll of film in your camera and have to think before each shot.
