Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this near Santa Cruz CA.

Time

I captured this at sunset.

Lighting

The lighting and colors were amazing, and wanted to try to create something a bit abstract .

Equipment

I currently carry a Nikon D7100 and I used a Niikkor 10-24 lens, all that sat on my my trusty Bogen carbon tripod, equipped with a Arch Swiss head.

Inspiration

I had captured a number of images that froze the wave action that evening then I started playing with slower and slower shutter speeds, creating nice effects that I have done many times before, but I wanted something different so, I made sure my tripod head was dead level and left the slower shutter speeds on the camera started to twisted the loose tripod collar during the exposures, creating this image.

Editing

I did saturate the image a bit to bring back the colors I recalled from that evening.

In my camera bag

In addition to the the fore-mentioned equipment I carry a Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 lens. I tend to be a minimalist as to what I carry as it get heavy on long hikes.

Feedback

Try various shutter speeds an different degrees of twist to the tripod collar and see what you like.
