Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on local indigenous land at a marina that the Beecher Bay band operates named Spirit Bay.

Time

This was taken a little bit around noon after we had visited another marina a few kilometres from this one. Our goal was to go see the seals and had hoped the local fishermen were there with their catch but no such luck.

Lighting

This was just another lovely almost fall day on south vancouver island.

Equipment

I used my Canon R6 with the Rf 70-200 F4 lens. I am still in practice mode with the equipment and having fun.

Inspiration

I wanted to take my sister who had come for a visit from Southern Ontario to see the lovely west coast sights.

Editing

I took the raw file and applied a few basic shadow and highlight adjustments as the sun had been pretty bright. I believe I did shoot underexposed a bit due to the bright sun.

In my camera bag

Normally I only carry my cell phone camera (Huawei P30) but in this case I knew I was going to be looking at taking a few scenery shots and hoped to catch the seals as well. So I specifically brought my R6 with the mid range telephoto.

Feedback

Take an opportunity when presented and just try to be prepared with a minimal light amount of gear when visiting the local areas that have great photo opportunities. This particular location has a variety of birds at different times ranging from eagles and osprey to various sea birds (ducks and gulls).
