Behind The Lens
Location
It's a javelin meet at my state's top university, and this athlete was about to make her first attempt.Time
12:35... just afternoon.Lighting
Natural light, with the sun almost at the zenith.Equipment
Nikon D7500, AF-S Nikkor 18-140mm. No flash, no tripod.Inspiration
I had almost two hours taking photos of the different competitions. As always, some better than others. But I liked this one since before I raised the camera. With the settings almost unchanged, I raised the camera and took two shots. I liked the result a lot, enough to share it here.Editing
Yes. I edited the chromatic aberration and increased the definition of the athlete. I also removed some blemishes on her legs skin and corrected some of the highlights. Finally, I erased the logos on her clothes. That's all.In my camera bag
The camera of course (Nikon D7500), three lenses: Nikkor 55-300mm, Nikkor 18-140mm, and Nikkor 35mm, tripod, and an extra battery. I never use flash. Only the available light: natural or the one that is in the place.Feedback
Set the general basic parameters for the existing light, so that if necessary, adjustments are as few as possible. In this case: f/8, to obtain a good focus and bokeh, 1/320s (which can vary from 1/200s to 1/400s), ISO 140 (or up to ISO 250 to be able to recover the shadows that at this hour are very hard), and the focal length that allows you a good framing, which here is 127mm. Athletes are always on the move, so shutter speed and zoom are very important, as is shooting RAW.
