Aquilegia vulgaris are very graceful perennials with single dark purple flowers with spurred petals.
The stems, stiff, strongly branched, have 5 to 15 kinked flowers at the ends. The leaf is blue-green, round and often divided into two or three lobes.
At 80cm high, it will self-seed almost anywhere, occupying corners avoided by other plants unless you cut the flowers off before they set seed.
