Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Classic Car and Restoration Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham UK. The car itself belongs to one of the volunteer drivers with the Sporting Bears fundraising group.

Time

This was taken in the morning but as it was indoors this was not really relevant

Lighting

The car was parked in the exhibition hall, so the lighting was a difficult mix of artificial light and daylight fr mthe big doors being open.

Equipment

Just the camera (Canon 800D) and Canon 24-70mm F2.8 lens

Inspiration

Most of the shots from the event were concentrating on the passengers for the rides, so it was a ice chance to grab something different. In this case I wanted to highlight the Jaguar badge and the chrome grill and headlights while, hopefully, giving some sense of the sweeping lines of the bonnet (hood for the Americans).

Editing

I ran the photo through lightroom, custom white balance to balance the lighting, tweaked the levels and added a tiny bit of vignette.

In my camera bag

Camera body; my 70-300 zoom for wildlife macros and covert shots, my 24-70mm for closer portraits, a flash gun just in case. finally the all important spare batteries!

Feedback

Try to get as little stuff in the background as possible. Don't set the aperture too wide - you need some depth of field to catch enough detail. Try taking several versions at different settings and with different focal points.
