Behind The Lens

Location

This is taken at the medieval bridge in the market village of Lostwithiel, Cornwall UK. the bridge has survived modern day traffic, a testimony to the amazing workmanship several centuries ago. It was a major crossing over the River Fowey for goods from all around the local area.

Time

This was an unscheduled stop off for coffee at a nearby great little café, after a mornings work; so the sun was high in the sky, which had enough cloud structure to be interesting and made for some great reflections.

Lighting

Not usually the best time of day for landscape work, but Mother Nature has a ways of providing just what you need, when you need.

Equipment

Taken with my Samsung Galaxy S21 mobile - as I was just out for a wander in the sunshine after work, and had none of my camera gear with me.

Inspiration

I have photographed this place several times before over the years, it never fails to delight. More often than not, when I come I usually have my dog with me who loves to splash around in the river.

Editing

As this was a phone picture I needed to dehaze very slightly, and crop out the 30mph road sign by left of the image.

In my camera bag

That depends on whether I intend to have a serious shoot - then my favourite go to is Fuji XT-20 I've had for a few years now - prime 18-55 f2.8 is so versatile. But I generally also carry a Fujifilm 70-300 F3.6 telephoto and a AF23 f1.8 wide angle lens. Tripod is a must, shutter release switch is handy too- but actually I often prefer hand held single shot photography. I also occasionally take out my trusty old Nikon D500 for a softer image, but ideally if I am doing any portrait shots.

Feedback

Ideally - you should plan to get the best gear you have and think you'll need, and be patient, don't worry if it doesn't work, retry the shot - (beauty of digital DSLR) - but always be on the lookout - so as not to miss an opportunity - grab that phone!
