Blue and yellow Macaw (Ara).

Blue-and-yellow Macaws (Aras) are large parrots measuring to 92 cm. in length, with a wingspan to 114 cm. They are very striking because of their brightly colored plumage. Males and females look the same in appearance, only the male is more robust and has a wider beak. The Macaw can be found in South and Central America. They live in warm areas where it can be dry and humid, but also in tropical rainforests and often near water.
They mainly eats seeds, nuts, nectar, tree bark and fruit. This bird has a very powerful beak that allows it to crack larger nuts such as walnuts with ease. In the wild, the macaw sometimes eats clay from riverbeds, which helps to digest toxins from immature seeds that they may have ingested.
They mainly lives in pairs. Often you can see them flying in pairs. They then fly so close together that their wings almost touch!
