A 30-foot tall Phoenix burns during the annual Firebird Festival in Phoenixville, PA, in 2012. Each December, residents of the town build a large wooden Phoenix (with a different design each year) and then set fire to it. Small, clay birds are placed inside the large wooden bird, and the heat from the burning wooden bird is used to fire the clay birds, which are subsequently glazed and (some) are made available to purchase at the local art studio.
