This image was taken on my way home. The Barn Owl hunting in a scrub field off the side of a bypass. Its always a challenge handheld photographing a wild bird and due to low light and access I had to increase the ISO to achieve 1/1000sec F8 at 400mmTime
This was really an unplanned opportunity at dusk! But so exciting to see a Barn owl ghosting across a field. It really didn't matter about the quality of the image but more importantly that you can still see them.Lighting
The Barn owl was still reflecting the ambient light which made its wings stand out against the darkening field I had to be quick tho before the bird was completely lost to the dark!Equipment
This image was shot using a Canon EOS 5d4 Lens Canon mk2 100-400mm and 1.4 canon ext. Taken handheld.Inspiration
I love Owls any opportunity must be taken!Editing
I use Lightroom for post processing . The image was cropped due to distance highlights were backed off and the shows slightly increased to reveal a little more of the wings. The noise reduction was increased due the high isoIn my camera bag
Always have my 5d4 Sigma art 35mm and Canon mk2 100-400 extender and tripodFeedback
Under normal circumstances I would have taken time to plan Wild bird shots returning many times in most cases just watching and taking notes of times seen, where it lands how long it stays. Basically learning its habits so I can set up some sort of hide. However sometimes you've just got to go with the moment and this shot was just that.
