Location
Lone Pine Lake, Sierra Nevada CA. Lone Pine Lake is the first lake on the Mt. Whitney trail and no permit is needed to hike here.Time
This photo was taken at sunrise - about 6am.Lighting
This is natural, sunrise lighting. It only lasted a moment and was awe inspiring.Equipment
I just used my pocket Canon PowerShot SX200 IS.Inspiration
My husband and I were finishing a 230 mile backpacking trip from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney. We stayed the night at Lone Pine Lake because we didn't have a place to stay in town until the next day. When I woke up at first light and stepped outside out tent, I was awe struck by the fiery orange glow on the granite walls around us. I walked to a rock near the waters edge and snapped the photo.Editing
I worked on the sky color a little as the lighting really washed it out. I used Photoshop Elements. In my camera bag
I always carry just a small pocket camera (right now an Olympus XZ-10) and a solar battery charger so I always have power on long backpacking trips.Feedback
Get up early and look outside. The sunrise world is often amazingly colorful and it's gone in a flash!
