Location
This shot was taken on a mountain side along Japan’s famous Tokaido Route.Time
This shot was taken about 5 minutes after sunset. The sky was still light, but most cars had their headlights on.Lighting
This composition faces N/NE, so at sunset, the light comes from the left, at sunrise it comes from the right. Both are beautiful, but at sunset there are more cars and better lasers.Equipment
Nikon D750 + Nikkor 50mm F1.4G on a Velbon tripod. I also used Yong Nuo wireless shutter remotes.Inspiration
This is a famous spot among photographers, and I had tried and failed on my first and second attempts, due to clouds and haze. Third try was perfect!Editing
This photo was mostly done with just basic adjustments. The mountainside was completely in shadow do I did some recovery there, and also recovered some highlights in the traffic. The biggest change was brightening the snow cap of Mt. Fuji.In my camera bag
For landscapes, I always have at least 3 lenses: Tamron 15-30, Nikkor 50, and Tamron 70-200 G2. Also wireless shutter release triggers, and an assortment of ND filters.Feedback
The haze and clouds are what usually ruins a shot from this location, so make sure to check the forecast for all of the surrounding areas of Mt. Fuji before going here.
