The MW lines up at this viewpoint in Oregon but surprise surprise (lol) it was cloudy so I had to use the MW shot I took the night before to composite into this sky. I blended my BH shot with one taken a little later to really be able to capture that glow from the lantern my buddy Ryan is holding. Once I brought this image into post- It was quite busy in the sky so I decided to add an exploding star effect. I hope you all like it and feel free to ask any questions

Location
This image was captured in Samuel L Boardman State Park on the coast of Oregon.Time
I took a blue hour photo and waited until night time to capture the lantern and the sky and blended it together.Lighting
Lighting was unique and had to be strategically captured. I took the lantern section of the photo when it was night time and the rest of the foreground during blue hour and manually blended those 2 exposures together to create a more visible and realistic look.Equipment
Sony A7r iii Sony GM 16-35mm Manfrotto tripodInspiration
My buddy and I were waiting for the right location to use the lantern and this one seemed to be it. I wanted a majestic and photo that gives you a sense of the magical view this place really encompasses.Editing
Yes, blue hour and night blend for the foreground and created a warped looking view to the stars in post. I liked it with stars in focus but felt like the focal areas were a bit “busy” so I decided to minimize the are of focus in the sky with this special effect and was pleased with the overalll feel of the photo when I did.In my camera bag
Typically in my Pelican waterproof backpack I have 3 lenses: 90mm Macro 2.8 16-35mm GM 2.8 Zeiss 55mm 1.8 A couple lumecubes Wireless trigger Extra battery Lens clothes ND and polarizer filter Protein Cookie :)Feedback
I am holding a workshop in this very location where I will be teaching others how to capture images such as this. Visualize the foundation of the end image and plan for many different scenarios. Don’t go with just one single idea and try to implement it. I like to have many different backup ideas when capturing different angles, exposures, and compositions because I never know exactly where things will go in “post”.
