Location
It was a day at the beach with my family at Mordialloc Beach and nearby it is an pier, so i decided to use my new 6 stops Lee filter to get an long exposure. Mordialloc Pier, Victoria, Australia.Time
This was my favourite photo taken on this day and it was an cloudy day and after some tries and errors the best results that i got was the long exposures where i captured the motion of the water hitting the rocks at shoreline. This was taken on February 8, 2018 at 2:57 PM.Lighting
I wanted this photo to capture the motion of the water and the softness of the clouds capturing the viewers attention from the seashore to the horizon through the pier. The light was soft and without great contrast due to the clouds that were increasing during the day.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mk III, with an EF 16-35 f/4 Is USM lens, 6 stops filter with filter holder both from Lee Filters, Manfrotto BeFree tripod and the RC-6 Canon remote trigger.Inspiration
This is a recognized landmark and in my mind i wanted to take advantage of the motion of the water and the clouds to get some motion contrasting with the stillness of the rocks and the pier it self. I have used the pier as guiding line giving the viewers the illusion of an endless pier that touches the line of the horizon.Editing
I always do some kind of processing in Lightroom, in this photo i had to correct the white balance because of the use of the 6 stops filter the original raw file had the colours darkened. I used the lens correction to remove the 16mm lens distortion and have straight lines, adjusted the shadows and the highlights, added some vibrance to the yellows and blues, some clarity and to finish i gave a bit of vignetting on edge of the frame. In my camera bag
On this occasion i had on my bag my Canon 5D Mk III with my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4l is usm, EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, Lee Filters Holder, 6 stops Lee Filter, an Canon RC-6 remote trigger and a Manfrotto BeFree tripod.Feedback
I usually do some kind of research on the internet of the place where I am going to visit, on this particular day I did not visit this place with the intention of photographing what gave me a special pleasure for having had the opportunity to improvise and test my skills and learn from the my failures.
