Location
This shot was taken at Yosemite National park during a short family vacation at the Thanksgiving school break. The place is called "Swinging Bridge", although it is a pretty solid construction these days.Time
It was evening, close to sunset. We were returning from a trip and decided to have a look at the "Swinging Bridge", which appeared not to swing at all. However, there was a beautiful view on the river and mounting, and I made several shots.Lighting
The low sun shed nice "raking" light on the mountains, and a shadow from the nearby peak added nice touch to the composition.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS Rebel T3i camera wuth 18-55 mm kit lens. This is an excellent sharp lens. No other equipment.Inspiration
The reflections in calm water, leafless trees, and end-of-day shadows on the mountains together with the feather-clouded skies created a perfect combination.Editing
I converted the photo to B&W to put more emphasis on the structures and shadows, and cropped part of it out to put more focus on the mountain. I also slightly darkened the skies for more dramatic impression. In my camera bag
My equipment depends on the situation and on the purpose of a particular photo-shoot. Most of the time I used to have my camera with 18-55 mm lens and a wide-angle or fish-eye lens, sometimes added by 55-250 mm lens. Recently I bought a Sigma 18-300 mm superzoom and use it for travel.Feedback
For landscapes, there is usually more dramatic lighting close to sunrise and sunset time. But keep your eyes open, and you can find interesting scenes anywhere and at any time.
