Location
this photo was taken in my back yard, I was playing around with my macro lens ( Tokina AT-X M100 f 2.8 macro lens, for you tech junkies' like me) when I noticed the cat next door watching me. I asked if he was watching me. he sat there watching me when inspiration hit me, this was actually not a bad shot. so I took it. I have since learned that the cats name is Caesar, I am assuming after Julius, and not the salad.Time
this shot was taken in the morning when the air is still calm. hard to get clear close up pictures of moving flowers...or cats.Lighting
the day was overcast but the sun burnt its way through later so it was great lighting.Equipment
this was shot freehand on a Nikon D500 with no flash. not sure if I used my macro lens or switched to my 24-70 F/2.8. I usually use a tripod as I tend to shake like I've had too much coffeeInspiration
my inspiration came from the way that I was being very intently watched by the cat, just loved the look in his eyes. my inspiration usually works like this....hey that looks cool, and the clicking starts, lol.Editing
there is very little post processing on this shot. I shoot in RAW format so the colors need to be adjusted slightly. I try to keep the picture looking as natural as possible. As a firm believer that less is usually more, I try to keep the color from looking like it has been adjusted by a colorblind primate who has eaten too many fermented fruits. adjust the color, then back it up a touch. In my camera bag
what's in my camera bag? my trusty Nikon D500 coupled with my 200-500mm F/5.6. I also have a Nikon 500 F/1.8 just in case there is a beautiful landscape shot, its very small and light so its easy to fit in. spare batteries, flash and extender round off the rest of the list. aside from my Blackrapid camera strap the only other thing is a few stray spruce needles and possibly a dead bug or twoFeedback
advice? always be on the look out for photo opportunities, they can pop up almost anywhere. if everyone is looking left, I will be the one who looks right. don't get so focused on one thing that you miss another. photography is a 360 degree perspective, never stop looking at all angles, it might be what makes your shot stand out from the rest. thank you for reading. happy shooting!
