Location
This shot as been taken a few minutes from my house, at one of the most beautiful seascapes in the west region of Portugal, Santa Cruz.Time
This shot was taken at the end of the day nearly 7pm at the peek of golden hour.Lighting
I wanted this photo to look as authentic as possible to reflect the beauty of the moment that i was presented with. The shadows were growing as the sun was going down, that constant change of the light as turned the coastline to a dark silhouette contrasting with the vibrance and textures of the sky. I´ve waited at least 40 minutes on the area and i was rewarded with a brief minute where the the composition was as harmonious and dramatic as i could ask for it.Equipment
This photo was taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, with an 24-105mm f4 lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I search inspiration for other photographers work and techniques, and explore the region where we are at the time. In this particular photo i was going for a walk with my wife to is one of our favourite places to "escape" from work, and one of my top 5 places to do landscape photography. For me the main goal is to enjoy the moment, that´s what counts the most.Editing
Usually i do some post-processing but in this particular case i didn't had much work. I did correct the white balance, add some contrast by adjusting the highlights and the shadows, and gave some clarity in some areas to increase the textures in the clouds. In my camera bag
The preparation of the journey is very important, but once in a while i pick it up the camera and go for a walk searching for the unknown, and it is one of the thinks that i enjoy more in photography. For that reason, my first choice is Canon 5D MK III with a EF 24-105mm F4 lens, but depending of the area that i am visiting and the weather condition. I also carry with me a EF 16-35mm F4, and a EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, its a lot of weight in my backpack but the tiredness normally is rewarded great image quality.Feedback
The sea coast of Portugal is immensely diverse. and in this particular place of the west coast we can take some marvellous sunsets photos. Its a bit of a gamble to catch a really nice sunset over here because its sunny almost half of the year but the irregular weather can ruin the plans for a shot. Some times it appears dense fog from the sea or other times strong cold wind coming from the north gushes for days along. Having that in mind, planning its a good recommendation, spending some time learning the spot and take a peek on the weather forecast, even a good way to adjust a plan its having an app on the smartphone, for example i use Exsate Golden Hour to help me on the spot for the sun position angle at sun set time. Waiting for the right moment and have a plan its important for a good shot, but for me, what really matters its to enjoy the moment.
