One of my favorite photos taken when I spent my semester break in Penang,Malaysia. Taken in the alleyways of Georgetown.Time
It was taken around 4PM we were headed to grab some late lunch but we decided to take our time and walk through the alleyways instead of taking the normal path.Lighting
Lighting was natural lighting from the alleyway from above the buildings and i love how it contrasts with the darkness inside.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 60D with the 24MM F2.8 Pancake lens which i had at the time. The camera was handheld and the lighting was natural no flash was used.Inspiration
Being in a new place for the first time is great Penang is a 6 Hour bus ride from the city capital Kuala Lumpur which is where i stay. Penang is a very special place. While hunting for for food we were making our way through the alleyways and in between hostels. This particular alleyway caught my attention so i turn on my camera and composed the shot but for some reason i delayed taking it. At the time the person was not even there it was just an empty alleyway. Then as i was about to click the shutter the Auntie just came out of nowhere and looked towards my direction. I had goosebumps after looking at my screen.Editing
I did post process this image but it was a challenge because there is so many ways to process this each with it's own feel. I wanted to go for something creepy but not very dark. So i decreased my highlights and increased some shadow and a little bit of clarity to the image as well gave it the POP!. I wanted the auntie become slightly visible enough so her features remain dark but also enough to make out the face looking towards my direction. In my camera bag
At the time i had my Canon 60D with a 50MM F1.8 and a 24MM F2.8 Pancake lens which was used to take this photo.Feedback
If you are in a new place just go and discover spots that not everybody goes to i like to call these the "Hidden Gems" of areas places where people just look over and dont show much interest. Going to these places i am certain you will find things of your interest. Taking the short way will make you reach your location faster but sometimes the long way has so much things to see and many of these Hidden Gems just waiting to be discovered.
