I captured this photo of a mallard duck flying over the marsh at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve near Sunset Beach, California. It's somewhat unusual to capture these magnificent birds in flight, and I was pleased to get this image. Although this species is not yet endangered, there may come a time in the foreseeable future when, like so many other species, they are so rare or extinct, we may only have photos like this to remember how precious they are.
