Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taken in the forest in the Julian Alps in Slovenia.

Time

It was early morning with thick fog all around me. At moments it was so thick I could barely see anything. But just before sunrise it started to deteriorate and reveal scenes like the one in the image.

Lighting

It was actually quite dark since it was still very early. That's why I used my 70-200 lens at F2.8 to get enough light in to make the image.

Equipment

I used Nikon D810 with a Tamron 70-200 lens. The image was shot handheld so without a tripod.

Inspiration

I do a lot of photography in autumn time. The mist is just something that attracts most landscape photographers and I think that is one of the best inspirations possible.

Editing

Yes, I chose to go for a dark blue mood here. So the image is more processed than most of my other images. But I just really liked how the dark blue tones turned out in this case.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a Nikon D810 with Tamron 70-200 and 15-30 lenses. I also almost always have my Mavic 3 in the bag as autumn shots with a drone can be quite epic.

Feedback

I think it's just important to not sit at home when there's a foggy and moody day outside. That is a great opportunity to go to a nearby forest and just explore different compositions. Taking good images in foggy conditions is much easier as the compositions are minimal and easier to notice.
