Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in the City of Arts and Sciences complex in Valencia, Spain. It's a great place to take photos, specially at dusk.

Time

I live in Valencia, so I visit this spot quite often to take photos. It's usually crowded so it's better to go at the end of the day. This one was taken at around 8pm in February.

Lighting

One of the reasons this is such a great place to take night photos is that the whiteness of the building makes a nice contrast with a dark sky. If you add the artificial lights inside the Hemisfèric (the building shaped like an eye) and along the bridge you don't relaly need much more.

Equipment

This was taken on a tripod with a Pentax K-x DSLR and a Tamron 18-200mm.

Inspiration

As I said before it's a spot I visit often. I always try to get different lighting and align the buildings in different and original ways. This time it was all about the contrasting colors.

Editing

Yes, I did. I edited the photograph on Lightroom to get a look close to HDR, boosting saturation to show the blue versus yellow contrast.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I usually carry around my Pentax K-5 II with a Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle lens for landscape photography and a 35mm prime lens. If I don't feel like carrying a lot of weight I take my Olympus Stylus 1.

Feedback

Get there early, find the spot that works best for you and keep at it until the light is just perfect.
