The Chilean flamingo is only found in Chili and Peru. There he lives near lakes in the Andes Mountains.
They are usually lighter in color than the other flamingos. It is light pink in color and even close to grey, like its legs.
Flamingos often stand on one leg. They do this to lose as little heat as possible. They lose a lot of heat through their legs because they are thin and have no feathers on them. When the bird retracts one leg and holds it against its warm lower body, the loss of heat through its legs is reduced by half. In the summer they use their thin legs to lose a lot of heat. They then stand with both legs in the water, so that they cool off nicely. In addition, the flamingo has webbed feet. This makes it one of the few wading birds that can swim.
