A perfectly preserved cenote (open pit) and aqueduct, Ocongalla Aqueduct was built in early 6th. century by the Nazca civilization in order to survive within this desert and dry valley regions. Featuring stone walled boulders still in perfect condition, the waters percolating through these ducts is melt water from the snow capped Andean peaks. Presently, these waters are still utilized by farmers to irrigate their land.
