Behind The Lens

Location

Parker River NWR in Newbury, MA.

Time

Late in the afternoon in May.

Lighting

The sky had filtered sun through patches of high thin clouds.

Equipment

A Canon 850D with Canon EF L series F4 300 mm lens. No flash and hand held.

Inspiration

I love photographing warblers and other birds. I enjoy the challenge of it.

Editing

Just basic minor adjustments to contrast & sharpening.

In my camera bag

Canon 1.4 teleconverter. I usually have this attached when photographing small birds. This photograph I did not because I wanted more light to strike the sensor.

Feedback

Lots of patience and above all luck. Use an aperture from F4 to F8. Use a minimum focal length of 300 mm. On a crop sensor camera you will get 480 mm on a Canon. Shutter speed depends on light. Usually 1/400th of a second or more. Use evaluative or spot metering. Use Canon's AI Servo setting.
