Location
I have set up my apartment balcony as a green space for me and some feathered friends.Time
My balcony faces west so fortunately I have good morning light/shade until just after noon.Lighting
I did place a large sliver reflector on the ground under the feeder to help with some shadows. I had no idea it would reveal the deep purple feathers!Equipment
I used a Nikon D5, Nikon 70-200, 2.8 and the Peak Design carbon fiber tripod in natural light.Inspiration
I love the challenge of capturing fast moving objects and after the first few visits, I thought I’d give it a shot. This one turned out so good, my sister, who loves hummers, asked for a 24x36 copy.Editing
Not much in post, lightened the shadows a bit to bring out the purple more and a smidge of sharpening for the feather. In my camera bag
Nikon D5 x2, D750x1, Nikon 24-70, 105 macro and 70-200, Sigma 150-600,Feedback
Set up before or between the hummers visits. Let them get use you and practice!
