This Turkish superstition assumes that all looks directed at you and you possess, contain a certain degree of jealousy and ill will (consciously or unconsciously) and that every evil look directed towards you will actually cause you misfortune and damage. The black eye on the door or around your arm or neck will block these looks from you.
Although we now mainly see them as souvenirs for tourists, it remains a superstition that still lives in all layers of the Turkish population and you will still be able to find this talisman in most Turkish homes. Making the talismans is a recognized craftsmanship in Turkey, so you can rest assured that your Evil Eye, bought in any tourist bazaar, is also of Turkish origin.
And don't be alarmed if yours is cracked or broken into pieces...it just means it did its job and protected you well from evil looks.
