I took it in my friend's home studio. I just needed some isolated background, and she had orange — it was just perfect.Time
It was evening, and the shooting took place from 18:20 to 18:50, 'cause I've got to be at work at 19:00. The makeup artist tooke her time (but made it perfect, I can't deny), so we started really late. I was worried, of course, but tried to calm down — successfully. We made not many shots, but they were really cool.Lighting
At first it was nothing special — I lit the background with a softbox to make it more pastel, then took a big octobox to make the light on the face as soft, as possible. But then I thought "ok, let's do something unusual". The walls were white, so I took a reflector with the blue filter and pointed it at the wall. I've got some really smooth blue shadows on the face, and it was so nice I was thrilled :)Equipment
I always use my Nikon D810, but this time I borrowed the lense from my friend-the studio owner. She's got Tokina 50/1.4, and I just needed something wider than my usual Tamron 28-75/2.8 :)) Now I'm going to buy myself something like that. I just loved the result.Inspiration
Xenia Lau. I'm a huge fan of hers, and I wanted to make it a subtle tribute — not stealing ideas or style, but taking the atmosphere and adding to it.Editing
I did some frequency separation in Photoshop to polish the image a bit, but not much — the makeup and the model's youth made much work for me :)In my camera bag
As I've said already, I use Nikon D810 and Tamron 28-75/2.8 with or without CPL filter. Sometimes I take old Soviet lense Vega-11 with m39-42-NikonF adapters for macro shooting.Feedback
Sometimes if some artist inspires you, try reliving their emotions by yourself and make something new, taking strength in your inspiration. I tried it now and it's really working. Now I know that I can make not only dark portraits as some of my students say :)
