Joe works as a mechanic in Bela Bela at the game reserves repairing the safari vehicles and other cars which succumb to the pot-hole ridden roads. He describes the love and acceptance he received when moving to the local township 7 years ago with his wife and explains that the stigma attached to the racial dynamics in these areas are misrepresented. Over time he has become a beloved part of the community and he offers repairs of the locals vehicles pro-bono as a Good Samaritan, and considers it his responsibility to ensure everyone can make it to work. Some of these vehicles are over 20 years old. He describes Jack (Jacaranda) as the closest thing to a father he’s ever had.

Jacaranda is a local entrepreneur who runs a timber business as well as a local tuck shop and small restaurant. The two have a palpable love for each other and it was wonderful meeting and interacting with them.
