Location
This was taken on the beach in The Camargue in France. These are the wild horses of the region.Time
It was around 6pm, getting close to sunset.Lighting
It was a cloudy day, so the sun was naturally diffused. It was also a little hazy which made it easier to feature the horses rather than their surroundings.Equipment
Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
I was on a trip specifically to shoot the wild horses of the Camargue. We were set up on the beach and the gardians (French "cowboys" that are responsible for the well-being of the wild horses) herded the horses towards us so that we could photograph them.Editing
This image was cropped to feature the group of horses. It was desaturated, and I played with brightness, exposure and contrast to get the "pencil drawing" effect. I also sharpened. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 6D Mark II, Canon 70-300mm lens, Canon 24-105mm lens. Canon t2i converted to infrared with a Canon 18-200 lens. I hardly ever use a tripod or flash, and never bring them on trips. There is usually a handy tree or rock if I need to steady the camera :).Feedback
In this case, in order to capture an image like this, you would need to book a specific photography tour that gives you access to the Camargue horses. The gardians were necessary to get the horses running through the water.
