Location
This photo was taken in the wilderness of Foskvattnet i Northern Sweden. Foskvattnet is a primeval forest area, where the trees can grow untouched until they die and rot down.
Time
A friend and I had been out all day. At the end of the day, we were treated with this colorful display when the sun was setting.
Lighting
It is the low-lying winter sun that can offer such light conditions, if you are lucky and are in the right place. As can be seen in the picture, the sun had gone down behind the hill, and the snow in the shadows had got a blue color. I dont think I have ever seen such a colorful sky before.
Equipment
The equipment I brought was my old faithful servant, a Nikon D90. I took the photo freehand without a tripod or something like that.

Inspiration
The purpose of my visit to Foskvattnet was to photograph primeval forest in a winter environment. I reckoned that the sunset would certainly offer a color cavalcades. And apparently, I did not have to be disappointed.
My footprints are visible in the picture. I realized that it would be perfect leading lines towards the sky. So I turned around and walked back before I snapped the picture.
Editing
The post-processing followed my usual pattern, ie opening up the shadows and bringing down the higlights, then I adjusted the contrast and exposure. I fixed the black and white points of the photo. The big task was to find the colors and the atmosphere that I experienced out in the field, I made adjustments in Lightroom before I was satisfied. I gave the picture some sharpening and blanced it with some noise reduction.
In my camera bag
I mainly shoot landscape motifs. That's why I always carry a wide-angle lens. Then I usually have a tripod with me to be able to take pictures with long exposures.
Feedback
To take such pictures, it is important to go out into the field, the conditions are best in the north, where the snow is deep in the wilderness and where the sun is low on the horizon all winter.
