Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at home. In addition to my photography, I am an avid coin collector. The colors on this coin is called “Toning” and is a natural occurrence that happens to coins. This one in particular is one of my favorite coins.

Time

Some time during the middle of the night. When I saw the magnificent rainbow toning. I just had to take photos of it.

Lighting

When photographing coins, you really need to pay attention to angles, details,, glare and focus. Coins look different every way you look at them.

Equipment

Believe it or not, my iPhone is my number one camera. I have an app that allows me to control the magnification and light of any subject.

Inspiration

The rainbow colored toning is just so great; I felt an obligation to document such a beautiful coin.

Editing

No post processing. This is a completely natural photo.

In my camera bag

I utilize my iPhone for almost every picture take. It’s convenient and I always have it. Once I upload my photos to iCloud, I am able to look at them better and do any cropping or adjustments needed. I’ve also grown fond of the app Photo Shop Express. It quickly and easily allows you to make slight lighting adjustments and also has different filters for a range of looks.

Feedback

I am always looking for a photo opp!! Pay attention to your surroundings! You will be amazed at what you see that you would normally miss. I also make time when I know outside lighting will be at its prime. These moments are times like a full moon, a colorful sunset or a foggy early morning.
