Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on an airplane shortly before landing at Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang, Indonesia

Time

I remember being on a morning flight when we flew back from Jakarta for Semarang.

Lighting

Having the sun cast a shadow on the plane towards the sea, really creates a unique aerial shot.

Equipment

For this shot, I used the Canon 80d equipped with an 18-135mm Canon kit lens.

Inspiration

The art of minimalism inspired me to try taking an aerial shot from an aircraft, despite the challenges.

Editing

I used lightroom to re-adjust the colours of the water and the island to give it a minimal look.

In my camera bag

The most important piece of equipment that I regularly brought along with me is the Canon 18-135mm kit lens, a very versatile lens used in many different types of photography. I then packed my very reliable Canon 80D with its Articulating touch screen I can shoot challenging angles with ease. In addition, I always bring along my 55-250mm Canon IS STM lens for its sharp image quality and telephoto capability. Lastly, I also wouldn't forget to bring my Canon 50mm F 1.8 STM lens to shoot subjects with a more shallow depth of field.

Feedback

When shooting on an airplane, find a seat around the front to minimize the obstruction caused by the wings of the airplane.
