Since 1664 a Franciscan monastery and, at first very modestly, a monastery church were built on the market square. This church soon became too small. So between 1734-1738 a new single-nave hall building was built .
At the beginning of the 20th century, a new construction of the church was envisaged. The monastery building was demolished in the winter of 1905-1906, and in 1908-1909 the church was extended to its present size.
