These two seascapes are from a trip to the island of Lampedusa, Italy, in July 2021. It was kind of a hazy day, the horizon was a perfect mashup of misty air and water. I took several shots of this scene from the cliffs in the south of the island.
I really hope I can go back there as soon as possible. The trip gave me so many chances to do some lifestyle and street photography as well, my most productive way, alongside architectural and minimalistic work. The landscape is surreal in some areas, so dull and empty, no hills or mountains around to block air currents, the result being the island is subject to any sort of air mass passing by. This makes for a constant, latent, subtle sand storm that never ends.
In the summer it’s hard to get hazy days though, since the light is still very harsh. Sunsets and dawns are beautiful but in autumn and winter everything changes. I hope I can be there again soon to catch some more of that magic.
These two images are available as Limited Edition fine art prints, printed on sustainable fine art paper (made with cotton and hemp) by Hahnemühle.
