Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my back yard during an afternoon rain storm. This plum tree was one of my grandmothers fruit bearing trees around our property. It is now in the process of dying as things are never everlasting.

Time

The photo was taken in the evening around 5pm. There are many memories of this tree. Eating its fruit and enjoying it with my family.

Lighting

I wanted to create an ominous yet beautiful image. The sun had just begun breaking slightly through the clouds which cast a slight glow on the leaves.

Equipment

This image was shot with a Nikon 850 with and 85mm fixed.

Inspiration

When I arrived home from work, the rain was pouring down. I noticed the raindrops splashing off the leaves. The rain subsided and this quite peace came over the countryside. I noticed it looked like the leaves were crying so I instinctively captured the moment I was feeling.

Editing

I created a cross process adding cyan to the shadows playing of the warmth of the leaves. Orange and teal, you can never go wrong.

In my camera bag

I have an assortment of cameras that I have used over the years. The Nikon 850, Canon 5DS r, and Hasselblad X1D II. My lenses consist of a Nikon 85mm 1.4, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. Also a Canon 85mm 1.4. And also the Hasselblad 90mm 3.2.

Feedback

If I could give any advice, the first would be keep your camera with you. Photography is about timing. You never know when or where you will be when that moment in time happens.
