....Spotted this bird after looking around for a couple of years....seen one 2 years ago but all i wound up with was a blurry missed shot.....interestingly the Painted bunting is a member of the cardinal family ...and the only true North American cardinal ....which, i don't understand ....guess i will have to read up on that ....the males turn this color after 2 years ....females and juveniles are a light lime green ....they live about 10 years ...
.....Populations have recovered from the trappings and exploits of this small gem of North America., which, were on the brink at the turn of the century, but, recent analysis shows numbers down again...close to the endangered mark. I watched a few programs about this interesting creature and a group of children were very excited and talking all about the rainbow bird!
