Flowers never used to interest me at all. "I'm a man... I photograph man's stuff like the rugged coastline or eerie woods!"
But I've come to realise how much the injection of colour can add to a landscape photo. Also, they're another thing to look forward to shooting as the seasons change. After the autumn colour in the trees, there's the bluebells & wild garlic in spring, followed closely by poppies at the beginning of summer.
I'd never seen these poppies at Poly Joke first hand. As the first Instagram posts began to appear, I knew it was a place I needed to visit.
I wasn't the only one. there were probably three or four other tripod wielding snappers there - and plenty more phone photographers! I did though, find myself in my own little meadow as the sun began to set.
I envisaged capturing a vibrant scene looking over a dense field of bright red poppies - backlit by the setting sun out to sea behind.
The poppies weren't as dense as I hoped though - and interspersed with other wild flowers. For me though, it made for a more natural scene and rugged in-keeping with my style. A dark & moody edit also helps!
Canon 6D MkII | 24-105mm lens at 59mm | ƒ-11 | 1-80 sec | ISO 200 | Tripod | Stacked hard grand & soft grad ND filters | 2 exposure focus stack | Taken near Laity Moor on 08-06-2021
