Location
In a Church Garden in Old Colwyn near my homeTime
It was early morningLighting
the light was bright but not intense and the sun fairly low in the sky to my right, illuminating the grass and the flowers well.Equipment
An Olympus 8080 Wide Zoom bridge camera which I once owned. Hand held and set on aperture priority at a wide aperture to throw the background out of focus.Inspiration
I had watched these flowers grow and bud and had been looking for an opportunity like this with good morning light and buds as well as blooms. The background included a path so I had to get a close high view to exclude that. It was the chance that I had hoped for.Editing
in Photoshop, I normalised the RAW file and adjusted Levels and sharpness.. the colour was really good and the highlights in the grass from small flowers showed wonderfully. In my camera bag
It depends, I have an Olympus XZ-1 f1.8 compact camera with an electronic viewfinder which I carry most times with me. If I am going on a photo shoot, I carry an Olympus OMD EM1 with several four thirds lenses and an adapter for my micro four thirds camera ... 35mm Macro, 25mm pancake a digital ED 12?60mm 1:2.8?4.0 SWD Olympus ED 50?200mm 1:2.8?3.5 SWD Cleaning pens for lenses, microfibre cloths.Feedback
Time of day and wide aperture are the most important aspects of this photograph. you want modelling of the flowers not flatness or high shadow. if you have the opportunity visit the area a few times at different times of day and note how the light illuminates the subject that you want. Try to exclude distractions in the background (distinct bright areas or dark lines will draw the eye.
