If you’re bored and want to spare 5 minutes, turn on the song “Heat Above” by Greta Van Fleet and enjoy this photo and that amazing song.
Something incredible strong hit me when editing this photo. The beauty that exists in our world despite its faults is something to seek. Ups and downs hit all of us, but moments like experiencing beauty in our world can be so personal and powerful and awesome. The song recommended above is one I discovered on the way to meet up with my friend Chris DeMars in the Redwoods on the hunt for Rhododendrons and some moody mornings. It had been quite a while since I had the chance to hit conditions that I expected, and the feeling of the morning was inspiring. Just one of those mornings that you know things are going your way, where the music hits harder and the smell of the air is extra refreshing.
Forest scenes are something I rarely shoot, but they are also my favorite to shoot because nothing beats exploring the forests and enjoying them on a nice calm morning. They are also incredibly difficult to shoot, unless of course you have fog. In that case, it’s like catching fish in a barrel. And this morning was no exception. The Rhodies weren’t very plentiful, but 1 was enough to nail a shot I’ve dreamed of getting for quite a while. Thank you little Rhodie. In fact this Rhodie even received the name “easter egg,” because the first image I took on this trip was a cool little comp and not until later did I notice this single Rhodie hiding in the wide angle picture. The natural contrast of the forest with cool misty fog, warm vibrant forest floors, and bright and colorful Rhododendrons is the absolute most mystical fairy tale scene one could see. Nothing beats the Redwoods and running into new and old friends.
One thing’s for sure, this one is being hung in my office ASAP! Hope you enjoy it too.
