Location
I'm blessed to have a beautiful little bitch wood behind my home in West Sussex. The autumn colours of the birch are so vibrant with silvers and oranges.
Time
This was early afternoon but in winter so the sun was just going down!
Lighting
We were totally over cast with a thick blanket of cloud. This acts like a massive softboxs removing any hard shadows at all!
Equipment
This was shot on ol' faithful d750 and the 85mm 1.8G

Inspiration
I love having my couples join me for an engagement shoot before their special day, it really allows me to not only get to know them better personally, but gives me insight into them as model; do they prefer a specific side of themselves, how do they naturally walk, what's their demeanor like, all those important macros for generating love stories on their special day
Editing
Yes, I have about 10 template lightroom presets. Intake 1 or two (as they all have different moods) and then build on those to create a profile for the shoot.
In my camera bag
I'd never leave home with out at least 1 speedlite and a pack of cheap gels (plus radio trigger). You can truly be the master of light that way even on the fly. My d750 and 85/35 dream combo stay round my neck all the time.
Also, having a collapsible reflector can be a massive bonus if you are stuck in dark areas to boost those shadows.
Feedback
Always be you with your couples, and draw out their love for each other, ask them to pay each other compliments and talk about how they met. It's MEANT to be goofy, that's how you get the good smiles!! Sometimes we can focus so much on the technical when really, we are capturers of emotions. Even this shot is slightly blurred, but it's a lovely moment, they certainly love it!
