Location
The closest city to our home is Montreal, in Canada, and since we wanted to create an urban and active character, enjoying the pleasures and advertisements that big cities offers so amazingly, downtown Montreal was the perfect location for the scene.Time
We are a rather morning couple so it was at the beginning of the day that we went to town to take this photo. The time it took us to locate the ideal place, to find a parking spot, to prepare everything for the photoshoot, the sun was starting to be quite high in the sky!Lighting
Considering that Carolyn, the model, costume and photo concept designer for our photography duo, was going to be moving in front of the camera, and that there were a lot of subtle details in the work she did for the coffee filter coat, we had used a AD600 Godox flash to freeze everything with sharpness, and also fight the backlight effect created by the sun behind her.Equipment
We used our Canon EOS R camera, a Tokina 11-16 mm F4 lens, to create that wide angle perspective, as well as a AD600 Godox flah.Inspiration
While preparing coffee one morning, Carolyn had noticed that coffee filters were an aesthetic material, with a delicate, feminine and complex texture, and that the paper was easily malleable so that once several filters were placed on top of each other others, there is a very interesting effect of movement and textures. She therefore came up with the idea of ??creating a complete look around coffee, with this coat made of coffee filters, a belt and purse made from take-out coffee cup lids, and coffee beans. She then imagined her character would be a very classy, ??urban woman, busy getting somewhere in town, an iced coffee in her hand, simply symbolized by coffee beans, since in photography, evoking rather than simply using the reality, makes the images ever more artistic, intriguing, and unique.Editing
Only a few street signs were removed and a little beauty retouching was done, in addition to playing with the tones to give the photo a more fashion finish. In my camera bag
In addition to our Canon EOS R camera, we always have our Canon 24-105 mm, a Tamron wide angle, a Sigma 50 mm 1.4 Art, a Canon 50 mm Macro, a trigger Godox, and extra batteries!Feedback
The choice of the lens is the basis for such a result, of course, and then, to work on the ground or as low as possible, allows to accentuate the dramatic effect of the image. For this image, Marc-André, the photographer of our photography duo, had to lie down on the sidewalk, even if what was on the ground was not very inviting. Don't be afraid to get dirty, or to suffer a little to create an amazing image! ;) Then, explore, go further in your ideas and creativity, add complexity and unusual to your projects. All these elements will surely give a special twist to your pictures.
