The Monnikendam is a still existing water gate in the Dutch city of Amersfoort. Under this water gate, the water of the Heiligenbergerbeek flows into the city center. The gate consists of two towers, which are connected by a gate arch.
At the beginning of 1400, the Monnikendam was built as part of the second city wall, which was built from 1380 to 1480. The name of the gate is probably derived from the Augustinian monks, who had lived since 1394.
