This portrait was taken in 2018 as an exercise to help hone my post-processing skills. That means I didn't set too many creative intentions or decisions with this portrait, rather I set my lighting & posed Janet so that I had something to work, improve & build on with in Lightroom & Photoshop. This portrait was initially a photo with low priority & something I intended to work on when I felt inspired, looking for something creative & constrictive to build, or as a piece that might help me work out a few creative techniques before applying them to a specific project.

I didn't do much work on this photograph until February & March of 2020 when I was flipping through my archives & wanted to edit something I hadn't considered - I wanted to find something new in my work.

In 2018, I did share a different alternative from this session on social media as a 'one-off' to socially share what I was up to. This is the 1st time this particular portrait has been seen. I am very happy with the skills I've developed & the creativity this portrait expresses.

I often photograph very frank portraits & this project became an exercise to hone my skills in a different type of fine art portrait photography. Also, because initially this project was more about refining my skills than showcasing it as a photograph, the initial framing was rough & off-the-mark to showcase the emotion within it so I decided to crop this photo to achieve visually & emotionally what was developing in my mind.

This portrait was taken with my trusty Canon 60D & the heavy square crop needed to achieve my creative decision was taking a chunk out of my resolution, so I was happy to read that this portrait would be ready in time for Adobe's Super Resolution feature (applied & seen here) & that I could reclaim & improve on some of that lost resolution & detail. * I am very, very impressed with the results. ** What was a 3456x3456 resolution photograph is now an impressive, 6912x6912 image.

I wanted to further develop my skills so that I could create something very painterly, very refined & very subtle. In the end I am happy with the results, skills & techniques I have further developed & I hope you appreciate & find value the work I've put into this portrait & you find it as beautiful as I do.
