This shot was taken driving from Fox Glacier to Arrowtown, South Island, NZ. Lake Hawea is named after a Maori tribe who preceded the Waitaha people in the area, this being Otago Region. It stretches 35km and lies in a glacial valley and fed by the Hunter River. Lake Wanaka, probably more famous, lies in a parallel valley 8km to the west.
The autumnal foliage colour compliments the glacial blue water, with the foreground lake edges a totally different colour, meeting the deeper water in a fairly distinct line.
Beautiful and magical scenery, cool crisp air to breathe and Mother Nature at her finest.
