Location
I took this shot out on Lake Windermere mid winter, I’ve always loved travel photography and it’s how I started out. Capturing the moments I’m in and the places I’ve been.Time
The reason I love this photo is down to how it came about. I rented a boat for my girlfriend’s birthday and that’s what it reminds me of. We went out mid morning and the sun was hiding behind the clouds which meant I could capture all of the moodier tones of the lake.Lighting
I love the layers and have moved this photo over to the cooler side of colours. The sun was peaking in and out of the clouds, so it was a really soft lighting with the mountains slightly brighter than the foreground.Equipment
Shot on the Sony A7iii with a 50mm 1.8 handheld.Inspiration
I really enjoy capturing the moments I’m a part of in a creative style. Its my way of keeping memories and being able to remember them in the best possible way.Editing
Usually I drop everything into lightroom and process in a style that compliments the image’s raw colour. For this though I also used photoshop to clean up a few water spots on the lens. Not all of them though because it added a character to the shot which I quite liked. In my camera bag
I always carry my Sony A7iii as my main camera, and my go to 16-35mm GM lens. But a staple to carry with me is the 70-200mm GM but often I’ll bring the 50mm 1.8 standard prime from Sony to challenge myself and even though it’s a cheaper lens, I love how it looks and vignette it adds to images.Feedback
Capture what’s in front of you and then think about the bigger picture. What other layers can you frame in and how can you add a dynamic that isn’t just at eye level. This was shot a little below my hips to add the front of the boat to the foreground. But the most part is to enjoy the process and what you create, the best photos I’ve taken are always when I’m happiest shooting.
