Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken shortly after mid night on New Years Eve. It was taken out of my window from my hotel room at the Marriott Marquis in Downtown Atlanta.

Time

Even though this picture was taken shortly after mid night, the city was still wide awake and buzzing with life.

Lighting

I had been watching fireworks out of my hotel window all night long. Once the fireworks ended I noticed how the lights from the building would reflect off of the smoke leftover by the fireworks. So I waited for a patch of smoke to blow across the top of the building and took the picture. The way the light from the top of the building caught the smoke lit up the entire sky.

Equipment

This was taken simply with my iPhone and a tripod

Inspiration

Some of my favorite photos I’ve taken are of both fireworks and of the city. I was exciting upon seeing the view from my hotel room, about the shots I would be able to get from a different perspective than normal.

Editing

No, this is the picture, just how it was taken.

In my camera bag

Until recently I’ve mostly just used my phone.

Feedback

I am new to photography, completely self taught. It relaxes me. I’ve just learned to be patient and not try forcing things. Look at things from different angles. Sometimes you need to zoom in to appreciate the detail. Other times back out and take in your surroundings as a whole.
