Brains are all structured and formed so differently. Everyone is an individual. Different! The brain is something unique to each person on our planet. Some however, are wired dramatically differently. The dyslexic brain brilliantly unique as some one may say. Using the right-hand side of the brain rather than the left, increasing strength within creative subjects and areas, rather than the left-hand side of the brain which is often thought of as more “academic”. But does this matter? Like I say every individual is different, strengths and weakness vary from person to person. Sometimes, being dyslexic it may feel like those connections and neural passageways or the way you are wired may be holding you back. Feeling like you are that one extremely stand out and strange kid in the back of the class room, or even in other every day situations. Stop! We are all different at the end of the day so no matter who you are you are unique to yourself. We should not be afraid of who we are a and we should use what makes us “different” and use it to its full potential. Right, now imagine, in a school scenario you have to spell a word or answer a times-table correctly to exit the classroom at the end of the school day along with your whole class, then it’s your turn, all eyes looking at you, waiting for you to say your answer. Skin and cheeks flushing, heart pounding, the sound of buzzing and whistling in your ears. Hotter, hotter and hotter. The sickening feeling of those words your about to say, your so scared of what others are going to think. You say the best answer you can and…. “Sorry, that’s the wrong answer. Go to the back of the line!” says your teacher.
At this moment in time you stick out like a sore thumb, that kid that could not even spell the word correctly. Just because your wired differently! But as I say we are ALL different. No two people are the same and you are not the only different one! Just believe in yourself and use your strengths.
