Location
This image was taken in my home in San Mateo California.Time
This image was taken a few years back when I was shooting with film. My interest was to take a still life of family heirlooms. It as afternoon and the room was mostly dark except for a makeshift artificial light source.Lighting
This was during a period of time that I did not own any dedicated artificial lighting (no shadow box or strobes). I used a construction type light that clips onto a pole. Worked with the light (moving it around) to capture the shadows and light that provided the best angle of view on the watch dial.Equipment
Minolta 35 mm with Ilford film, tripod and makeshift artificial light source.Inspiration
I was working on a series to conceptualize "time." This watch had been in our family for a long period of time and I was inspired to memorialize it in the series.Editing
The image was developed in the darkroom. There is some dodging and burning involved in the final image. In my camera bag
I shoot digitally these days. Use mostly my Sony A7Rlll with 24-70 F4 lens. Also, beginning to use a LensBaby composer pro with edge optic.Feedback
Look for both heirloom artifacts and ephemera that have deep meaning for you. I recommend using a still life approach with a black velvet cloth and a shadow box light. Note: shoot over the object with a tripod on the table and tether the camera to a laptop to control the shot since you will be unable to use the viewfinder.
