Thank you. Brookelin was great to work with.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the Bonneville Salt Flats, east of Wendover, Utah

Time

The time of day was 3:49 PM.

Lighting

The lighting was sunlight. Unique to photography on the Salt Flats is that the salt acts like a reflector.

Equipment

Nikon D850 Tamron 24/70mm f/2.8 70mm f/9 ISO 64 1/250s

Inspiration

Brookelin Backus was easy to work with. She's an experienced model. She created a mood via hair, makeup, and wardrobe. It was easy to capture her as she posed.

Editing

I used DxO to process the raw file, then exported to Corel Paintshop Pro. The biggest challenge was editing out the shadow on her lower right side.

In my camera bag

My camera bag normally contains my Nikon D850, a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8, a Nikon 85mm f/1.4, a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, and my "Swiss Army Knife" Nikon 28-300mm. I carry extra batteries and memory cards, a lens cloth, and other miscellaneous items.

Feedback

Scout your location. Talk to other photographers who have been there before. In this case, the sponsor, the Wasatch Camera Club, makes it an annual event, so it's easy to discuss ideas with fellow photographers. Establish rapport with your model. Discuss ideas with your model. Take lots of photos. Ask your model for feedback. Take more photos. Thank your model.
