This photo was taken starring at me to feed it canned food, the good stuff, with gravy and sound of aluminum pull tab. Watching to see if I would move toward the pantry.Time
The cat knows a midnight meal might be had if it culminated a day of vocal begging with a direct, face to face attention grabbing effort. Watching tv one evening, it just sat there. That was the signal to slowly move my phone into position to take a few photos.Lighting
The thing is that the light quality was low and the reflections from the TV made the image less than optimum. One of the ways I can make something out of stone soup, is drop all the color. In this case the cat happened to be black, so that it fits the expectation of darkness. Then to bring color back, I hand painted the color into its eyes, anthropomorphic projection, and then balanced contrast and increased the intensity of the color until then worked together.Equipment
The photo was taken on my iPhone 12 using its automatic settings.Inspiration
My animals tend to sit and wait for this and that, so when they stare at me, I know they want to be fed. I think they would eat me if given half a chance. I’d like to think that are furry cute animal friends but they show their intense focus from time to time. They know when it’s time to eat, and the cat jut decided to camp still enough.Editing
The processing it was drop the color and then add selective color to the eye, push the contrast and then hand color the background with black. Sometimes the only thing that matters is the focused area and the rest only a suggestion of detail. Permission to move out unnecessary detail and increase the canvas area in tight shots. Negative space in phots, like art tends to engage the viewer. In my camera bag
I carry my iPhone. Until Santa arrives or I win a contest. LolFeedback
Animals respond to successive approximations. They lose attention and ignore you if you wait long enough. And sometimes they want what you have, food. Symmetry, crafting the focus, resizing the canvas to meet the subject, and bring all of the elements into line. The idea of a black act, in the dark, a single attention, highlighting the area of focus and ignoring the rest to the lint that there is nothing left to add or remove.
